Bieber homers twice in big week for Mt. Vernon

The Lady Mt’neers had a brutal week on the schedule as the first MHSFCA rankings revealed three state-ranked squads would conclude the week. The Lady Mt’neers debut at No. 8 in the initial rankings before taking on their first two games of the week Monday and Tuesday.

The Mt’neers will look to rebound on the baseball diamond after a tough 6-19 season in 2021. Eleven lettermen return in what should be a promising year for the diamond Mt’neers. The team is already off to a great start taking their first two games of the season against Clever and Spokane.

Miller stand-out senior, Payten Richardson became a member of the 1,000 point club during the Walnut Grove tournament, back on Dec. 23. Richardson joins fellow seniors Claudia Hadlock and Kaylee Helton in the elite crew, placing each of the seniors on the Lady Cardinals squad in the group.

The Mt. Vernon girls basketball team came into district play as the two seed only behind host Seneca. However, their postseason dance was over early as six seed Cassville ended the Lady Mt’neers season 34-31.

There were sky high expectations for this year’s version of the Miller Lady Cardinals, as three straight trips to the quarterfinals wasn’t enough. The goal was obvious. Get over the hump and make the Final Four for the first time since 2010.

Mt. Vernon’s Lacy Stokes, currently playing for the Missouri Southern Lions was named the MIAA Freshman and Player of the Year as the league announced their yearly honors last week.

Lady Cardinals claim fourth straight district championship

Success for the Lady Cardinals is nothing new. They haven’t seen a losing season on the basketball court since 2014, and haven’t even seen 10 losses in a season since 2017.
