Aurora has found the successor to Craig Weldy as the head coach of the football Houn’ Dawgs. That will be the former defensive coordinator at West Plains, Brandon Pitts. Weldy retired following his fifth season at the helm for the Houn’ Dawgs, after going 9-3 and winning the Big 8 Championship.

The Miller Lady Cardinals are finishing the season with some of their best play as they took three more SWC games last week, convincingly. They opened the week with a 57-14 win over Pleasant Hope on Monday. They followed with a 49-30 win over 14-8 Stockton, Tuesday.

The Mt. Vernon Mt’neers came into the week riding a two-game win streak after defeating Reeds Spring and Clever on the week of the snowstorm, but they were faced with their most difficult pair of games since the Blue and Gold where they took on two 20-win teams in Nixa and Ash Grove.

The Aurora Houn’ Dawgs took first place in the Crane Tournament, which started back in early January, after defeating Monett, 68-67 in double overtime Saturday night.

Rain was falling in Ash Grove Tuesday night as the Ozarks prepared for the worst winter storm in nearly 10 years. The competition was hot inside indeed, as Ash Grove and Miller boys and girls faced off.

Aurora tipped off the Crane tournament Jan. 11 with a convincing 75-43 win over the Clever Blue Jays, but COVID complications forced the tournament to be postponed. They finally got their chance to advance to the championship game in a Lawrence County showdown with the Marionville Comets.
