6 more COVID cases confirmed by Law. Co. Health Department

Total of 7 cases now in Lawrence County, all residents of same care facility; numbers may rise with results pending
Last week, the Lawrence County Health Department confirmed six new cases of COVID-19. The new cases come on the heels of the first laboratory confirmed positive case the week prior. All of the cases are residents of the same long-term care facility in Lawrence County, which has not yet been named. At the time of the press release, three more test results of residents were still pending at the facility.
Additionally, all of the staff at the care facility were also tested for the illness that has grown into a pandemic.
Citing a mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to protect health information, the county health department claims the information they can release is very limited.
“We want the public to remember that COVID is still actively circulating and our county is not immune. Most people who get COVID-19 will only have mild symptoms; however, there are some members of our community who are at a higher risk of getting very sick,” the release said. “We must each do our part to protect them, ourselves, our loved ones and the rest of our community by practicing the following:
- Clean your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay at home as much as possible.
- Put distance between yourself and other people (at least six feet).
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily.”
