Agnes Lucille Chastain

Agnes Lucille Chastain, 87, Carthage, passed away Oct. 7, 2019 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage. She was born March 1, 1932 in Round Grove and was a resident of St. Luke’s Nursing Center for the past three years. Growing up in Miller, she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1950. She lived in Carthage from 1953-1961 and then resided in Springfield until 2016. For 25-plus years she worked for Dayco Rubber Plant and after that St. John’s Hospital for 11 years until retirement.
She was an active member of Parkview Christian Church, Springfield. Some of her favorite things to do were daily Bible reading, sewing, gardening, singing in the church choir, visiting church shut-ins and hospital patients, playing softball in the city leagues (went to state twice), and dabbling in little carpentry projects now and then.
Survivors include: sister, Betty (David) Janney, Carthage; one nephew; a great-nephew; and a great-niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bonnie Myers.
Visitation was held Oct. 10, 2019 at Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Graveside funeral services followed in Miller Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Miller. Memorials may be made to Parkview Christian Church in Springfield or First Christian Church in Carthage, in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
