Allen D. Myers

Allen D. Myers, 85, of Exeter, passed away Feb. 27, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Myers was born April 24, 1933, in Douglas, Wyo. the oldest son of Oliver O.E. “Bud” and Irene (Carter) Myers. In 1954, shortly after his time served in the United States Navy, he married Freda Tucker, who survives; they shared 64 years together.
Myers grew up in Barry county after moving with his parents from Wyoming. He attended school at Cross Hollers and Cassville High School. He was proud of his time served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Leo and later spent time stationed in Japan and Hawaii. After his time of service in the U.S. Navy he spent many years farming and raising cattle on Willow Branch in Jenkins, before moving to a dairy farm in Purdy in 1976. There he prided himself in his alfalfa fields and cattle herds. He milked cows and raised beef cattle in Purdy until they moved to Exeter in 1998. Retirement was never in his plans. He began working as the green’s keeper at the Cassville Golf Club shortly after coming to Exeter. He enjoyed his early mornings on the golf course mowing the greens and always looked forward to each day there. He continued doing farm work and helping his son Jeff in construction. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
Myers is survived by: sons, Rex (Jaron) Myers of Cassville, Randy (Dody) Myers of Monett, Doug (Darla) Myers of Monett, Jeff (Becky) Myers of Exeter; daughter, Cindy (Grant) Roark Grant of Cassville; brother, Donnie (Glenda) Myers of Shell Knob; sister, Nancy (Dale) Reed of Cassville; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Leroy.
Services were held March 4, 2019 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Burial with military honors was at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Cassville. Memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Cemetery.
