Sentencing set for Nov. 2, faces possible life behind bars

An Aurora man who was arrested last year for sexually abusing an underage girl was convicted of first-degree sodomy following a three-day trial in Barry County. The jury returned a guilty verdict against Kevin L. Hausmann on Friday, Sept. 10.
Hausmann, 68, was arrested on charges of sodomy and incest on Jan. 31, 2020, by the Aurora Police Department. According to the probable cause statement filed in the case, the victim, a girl under the age of 12, told her mother about Hausmann’s actions. The girl’s mother contacted the Aurora Police Department.
During a forensic interview, the girl said that over the past year, Hausmann had “touched her 40-50 times” She also told the interviewer that Hausmann would make her go into his bedroom and massage him with lotion.
A search warrant was executed on Hausmann’s residence, and specific items described by the girl were located in places she said they were.
During a post-Miranda interview, Hausmann did admit to several of the accusations. He also said that “he was not saying (the girl) was lying, but he did not call it child molestation.”
Charges were originally filed against Hausmann in Lawrence County, but the case was moved to Barry County on a change of venue.
Hausmann will be sentenced on Tuesday, Nov. 2; he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole until after serving 30 years. He remains in the custody of the Lawrence County Jail, where he has been held since the day of his arrest.
