The Aurora Lady Houn’s had their eyes opened following an opening game loss against Clever. Since that 53-48 defeat to the Lady Jays, Aurora has won six straight games and none of them have been within 12 points. This stretch saw the Lady Houn’s run through the Freeman Lady Eagle Classic in Joplin over the weekend.
Before the Lady Houn’s went to Joplin, they had their home opener against a Class 6 squad out of Arkansas in the Rogers Heritage War Eagles. The War Eagles were overwhelmed from the word go, as the Lady Houn’s outscored Heritage 29-4 in the second and third quarters. Aurora ended up cruising to a 47-15 victory behind 14 points from Alyssa Burch and 13 from Jaelyn Burch.
After the victory over Heritage, the Lady Houn’s took to Joplin for their first appearance in the Freeman Lady Eagle Classic. They opened with another foe from our neighbors to the south. This time it was the Russellville Whirlwinds. The Lady Dawgs took care of business, 63-44, to set up a semifinal game against Branson. The Lady Pirates came into the game undefeated and they gave the Lady Houn’s their best game since Clever, but Aurora was able to defeat the Lady Pirates, 46-33, to advance to the championship against the Blue Springs South Jaguars. The 3-4 Jags looked to slow the game down but were unable to capitalize as the defense of the Dawgs held BSS to just 18 points in a 38-18 victory and tournament championship. Aurora seniors Kena Hall and Kylee Cole were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Houn’s improve to 6-1 for the season. They will host Kearney on Wednesday in their final game before opening the Pink and White Tournament against Buffalo as the eight seed.
