Aurora woman arrested for child molestation, other charges

Artrip

An Aurora woman was booked on April 22 on charges of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and deviate sexual intercourse with a child less than 12 years old, as well as child molestation.

June Artrip, 47, was arrested following an investigation and a warrant being issued for her arrest. Probable cause was established when a detective with the Aurora/Marionville Police Department attended an interview conducted with the victim at a child advocacy center.

The victim claimed that Artrip would give him different pills, one small pink one, and one white one about an inch long, in order to get him to fall asleep. He reported during the interview that he would often wake up with his pants on backwards or not on at all. The suspect would tell him that the pills were just melatonin. At the time of the reported crimes, the child was only eight or nine years old.

The victim claimed that at the beginning of the abuse he would sleep until morning. He claimed that after a while he got used to the sleeping pills and would start waking up earlier which led to his realization of what was happening.

Artrip is currently being held without bond but had a hearing scheduled for May 1.
