Workers update Mt. Vernon Post Office with whopper windows

Although no hurricane was expected, the window openings at the Mt. Vernon Post Office were fully boarded up last week, following the removal of its aged windows, likely original from when the building was erected in 1937. All new windows are being installed this week by American Construction, out of Joplin. The charge is no small task as the 18 windows being installed are 9 feet tall and weigh a whopping 600 pounds—apiece. Each installation of the Anderson brand window requires the strength of four workers to muscle them into place.
No one from the Mt. Vernon postal location was allowed to speak to the newspaper about the highly classified swap, although their intentions seemed transparent. (Photo by Ryan Squibb)
