BILL DONALD STANFORD

Bill Donald Stanford, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on February 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. Bill was born on April 11, 1939; the son of Don and Firn (Henderson) Stanford.
On February 23, 1979, he married Glenda Hurley in Springfield. Together, the two shared nearly 45 years of marriage. She survives.
Bill worked for many years as a maintenance of way crewman for the railroad, and also as a truck driver for Willowbrook Farms until his retirement.
Bill had many hobbies he loved, especially fishing, horses, and bluegrass music. He was loved for his sense of humor and distinctive laugh, always saying “if you ain’t having fun in life, then life ain’t worth living.” Above all else, he loved his family and made sure they knew it.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter, Brandy Heisner of Mount Vernon; two grandchildren, Cayden Heisner and Sadie Heisner; one brother, Blake Stanford. Bill was also the father of five other daughters and many grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother; two brothers, Benny and Bob Stanford; a daughter; and one granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Southwest Cremation Services.
