Bill R. LaMar

Billy Ray LaMar, 71, of Springfield, passed away Jan. 1, 2019.
LaMar graduated from high school at Reeds Spring High School, and went to Southwest Baptist College (now Southwest Baptist University), graduating in May of 1969. He met LaRee Remington on a blind date two weeks prior to graduation, and they were married in 1969, six days after being sworn into the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant. Shortly thereafter he went to pilot training, eventually becoming an instructor pilot.
After finishing his time with the Air Force, LaMar and his family relocated to Springfield, in 1981, where Bill and LaRee remained. LaMar was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2002, and struggled with the effects of that disease on his body for the remainder of his life. However, as the disease had greater impact on his physical body, his disposition became increasingly gentle. While the transition to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon was difficult, he maintained a remarkably good attitude being known throughout the home as the guy with the great smile. He is survived by: his wife and children, Phebe (Bruce) LaMar-Emig and Daniel (Kellie) LaMar; sister Cheryl Parks; seven grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews, other family, and many friends. Visitation was held Jan. 3, 2019, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Jan. 4, 2019 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
