Mt. Vernon's Cale Miller did his part and more to get Mt'neers head coach Nick Swillum his 300th career win, hitting two home runs, including a grand slam, and driving in six runs in the win over Lamar 14-4.
"The district took a gamble hiring a 22 year-old head coach right out of college and I am thankful they stuck with me through good seasons and some that were not so good," said Swillum, who is now in his 24th year at Mt. Vernon. "The boys hit the cover off the ball and ending the game on Cale Miller's walk-off grand walk-off grand slam is a moment I will never forget."
Miller finished the game with two home runs and three total base hits to go with his six RBIs.
Mt. Vernon scored three runs each in the first and second inning and then added four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to run-rule the Tigers.
Colby Johnston got the win on the mound, throwing the complete-game, striking out four and giving up just three earned runs.
The Mt'neers are now 5-2 on the season and will be competing in the Bill O'Dell Invitational in Carthage this week.
