Candidates Boggs, Kasper, Fobair, Massie win on election day

Primary races resolved, candidates will now battle across aisle in November contested races
 
Lawrence County voters turned out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to cast their votes for candidates in local and statewide political elections.

Countywide elections
Among the contested elections in Lawrence County, three incumbents won re-election to their respective offices. Mitch Boggs handily won his seat back as Missouri State Representative-District 157, by a two-to-one margin. Boggs received 4,310 votes (65.412-percent), while his challenger, Wally Long, won 2,279 votes (34.588-percent).
Judge Matthew Kasper won 3,434 votes (54.2-percent), to defeat challenger Stacy Tomlin Harmon, who received 2,902 votes (45.8-percent), to keep his seat as associate circuit judge. Likewise, Lawrence County Circuit Clerk Pamela Mieswinke Fobair won 3,376 votes (52.87-percent), defeating challenger J.R. Wolfe, who won 3,010 votes (47.13-percent).
Among the other local political races, Darlene Parrigon defeated Roscoe Miller to become the new Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney. Parrigon received 3,968 votes (62.7-percent), while Miller won 2,361 votes (37.3-percent).
For the office of Recorder of Deeds, Denise Massie won 2,842 votes, or 44.05-percent, while her competitors, Kathy Myers and Randy Orr, won 1,926 votes (29.85-percent) and 1,684 votes (26.10-percent), respectively.
Some candidates ran uncontested. They were: Don Trotter, who was elected Associate Circuit Judge, Division 1; Bob Senninger, who was re-elected as Lawrence County Presiding Commissioner; Tammy (Cole) Riebe, who was re-elected as Lawrence County Clerk; Kathy Seneker Fairchild, who won another term as Lawrence County Treasurer and Kelli McVey, who will spend another term as Lawrence County Collector of Revenue.

Statewide Elections
Lawrence County voters also cast their ballots for candidates in state-wide primary elections. Among the candidates, 21 Republicans and 11 Democrats ran for their respective parties’ nominations.
In Lawrence County, Republican voters chose Eric Schmitt, who received 2,744 votes (41.01-percent), who ultimately won the nomination. Vicky Hartzler came in second with 1,193 votes, followed by former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens with 1,154 votes (17.247-percent) and Congressman Billy Long, with 1,082 votes (16.171-percent). No other Republican candidates topped 200 votes in Lawrence County.
Among the Democratic candidates, Trudy Busch Valentine won 276 votes (44.588-percent) in Lawrence County; she also won her party’s nomination statewide. Lucas Kunce came in second with 202 votes (32.633-percent). No other Democratic candidate got 30 votes in Lawrence County.
For the office of United States Representative, District 7, Eric Burlison was the clear winner among the  Republican candidates; he won 2,115 votes (31.69-percent) in Lawrence County, as well as the party nomination. Mike Moon came in second with 1,761 votes (26.386-percent) and Jay Wasson, who got 1,211 votes (18.145-percent). Meanwhile, Kristen Radaker-Sheafer was the top Democratic candidate in Lawrence County with 358 votes (59.866-percent); she also won her party’s nomination.
Finally, for the office of State Auditor, among the Republican candidates, state treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick won 4,037 votes (66.672-percent) in Lawrence County over David Gregory, who got 2,018 votes (33.328-percent). Fitzpatrick will face Alan Green, who ran unopposed to win the Democratic nomination.
Altogether, 7,466 ballots were cast in the Aug. 2 election in Lawrence County, representing 29.76-percent of the county’s registered voters.
Election results are unofficial until certified by the Missouri Secretary of State, John R. Ashcroft.
