Miller’s Nate Hill drives through the tough defense of Ash Grove to score a first quarter bucket.

The Cardinals have lived or died from the three ball this year and it proved to be too much in a Friday night showdown against Lockwood, in a marquee win for Miller. The shooting didn’t translate in their other two match ups as they also fell to Pleasant Hope and Ash Grove in a busy week.
After being bested by Pleasant Hope, 57-47, on the road in a rare Wednesday night battle, the Cardinals found some momentum led by a fantastic defensive effort. The Cardinals held Lockwood’s best scorer Henry Schnelle scoreless as Miller got the job done Friday night in a 30-21 win. The week ended on a sour note as the No. 4 team in Class 2 came to town in Ash Grove.
Much like the Lady Cardinals did in the first game on Friday, Ash Grove took a big lead early on the Cardinals 13-6 after the first quarter. Things got worse for the Cardinals in the second quarter as the Cardinals were held to just two points in the period while Ash Grove scored the first 25 points of the quarter to take a 40-8 lead after a half.
Miller struggled to get to the charity stripe all game long, but got their lone trip in the fourth quarter. But by that time, the Pirates had looted and plundered all that the Cardinals had en route to a 67-22 Miller defeat.
The Cardinals fall to 9-12 for the season. Miller’s only action of the week came on a Tuesday road trip to Stockton to take on a very good Tigers team that has been on a roll since Jay Baxter has returned to the court.
