Carol Ann (Thurman) Pilkenton

Carol Ann (Thurman) Pilkenton, 83, passed away May 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, with family by her side. She was born in Charity,  Oct. 6, 1935, to Lawrence A. Thurman and Gertrude A. Thurman. 
She graduated from Aurora High School class of 1953. Pilkenton then graduated from Drury University in Springfield, in 1957 with an A.B. degree in sociology with a lifetime elementary teaching certificate and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She started her teaching career in Aurora at Franklin School teaching fifth grade for three years. She married J.D. Pilkenton in 1957, in Aurora..Together they were blessed with two sons.
Pilkenton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 71 years and served on many committees, boards and service groups. She was a member of the PEO sisterhood and Daughters of American Revolution for many years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her Aurora and Shell Knob bridge club friends. She was also an avid golfer in her younger years.
Pilkenton is survived by: her husband of 62 years of Aurora; sons, Robert Scott (Kaye) Pilkenton of Aurora and Bennett Jay (Becky) Pilkenton of Monett; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (J.D.) Carr of Aurora. Pilkenton is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Gertrude and brother, Bob Thurman.
A funeral service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora was held at 10 a.m. at the Aurora United Methodist Church with burial that followed at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
