CAROL JEAN (COCKMAN) INGLE
Carol Jean (Cockman) Ingle, 75, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, in a hospice home. She was born Aug. 24, 1948, to Marvin and Irene Cockman in Thayer.
She attended school at Couch and in 1966 she graduated high school and went on to attend beauty school in West Plains. After graduating from beauty school, she moved to Springfield where she worked at Mary John’s Beauty Salon.
She met Gene at church while visiting family in Mt. Vernon, in October 1971 during Apple Butter Makin’ Days. They were engaged two weekends later and married on May 6, 1972.
The couple lived in Tulsa, Okla. until 1973 and moved to Mt. Vernon one year later when their first daughter Carrie was born. To their surprise, 12 years later, their other daughter Leah was born.
She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ since 1973 and was also active in the community helping with Apple Butter Makin’ Days for over 15 years. In 2012, she received the Citizen of the Year award.
The last five years of her life were battling Alzheimer’s. She spent the last of her days in a peaceful place called The Solace House.
She is survived by her husband Gene of 51 years; daughters, Carrie Ingle of Mt. Vernon and daughter Leah (Steven) Prewitt of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren; sister, Della (Richard) Prewitt of Mt. Vernon; brother, Larry (Sue) Cockman of Poplar Bluff; as well as several nieces and nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her in-laws, Vernon and Verenia Ingle; brother, Dow Jenkins and his wife Marge; and one nephew, Roger Prewitt.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, at Fossett Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
