MVHS graduation, state softball championship run highlight action
Mt. Vernon High School has a lot to celebrate. Not only did 92 graduates earn their diplomas Friday, May 19, but the school’s softball team is in the midst of another run to the state championship game, which was played the afternoon of Tuesday, May 23, in Springfield.
In support of the softball team’s journey, a police escort for the team bus as it headed out of town included siren-blaring cops cars and fire trucks, which made their way through downtown not once but twice this week. Also included in the team’s departure was a stop at Mt. Vernon Elementary School for high fives and praise from encouraging youngsters.

Early Learning Center celebrates first graduation with 67 preschoolers for Class of 2036
The Mt. Vernon High School Class of 2023 took their honorary “Last Walk” through the halls of Mt. Vernon schools on Friday, May 19, at their last stop, the Early Learning Center, where they posed with some of the future Class of 2036 students. Mt. Vernon High School graduation was held on Friday night, May 19, there were 92 total graduates from the Class of 2023. The Early Learning Center held their graduation on Tuesday, May 23. This is the first year the Early Learning Center has held a graduation since opening their doors for the 2021-2022 school year. There are a total of 67 preschoolers who will graduate and move on to kindergarten next year.
