Donald L. Sperandio

Donald L. Sperandio, 80, of Verona, passed away Aug. 12, 2019, at Bentonview Park Health and Rehab in Monett.
Sperandio was born May 24, 1939, in Verona, to Dominic and Theresa (Stark) Sperandio. He received his education from Monett High School. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the National Guard. Through the years, he enjoyed farming. He worked for the City of Monett at the wastewater treatment plant.  After retirement, he drove a school bus for Gale Webb Transportation until his health began to decline. He enjoyed going to the lake, boating, jet skiing and riding his four-wheeler around the farm. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Monett, where he was involved in the Knights of Columbus. In 1977, in Mt. Vernon, he married Patricia Stanton Buckholtz.
Sperandio is survived by: his wife; daughters, Stephanie Hamm of Verona, Michelle Farnsworth of Springfield and Suzanne (David) Haik of Springfield; three grandsons; one brother, John (Linda) Sperandio; sisters, Evelyn (Bob) Stribling of Monett and Alberta Schultz of Macomb, Ill.; and several extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Edward Sperandio; and sister, Virginia Craft.
A memorial mass was held Aug. 20, 2019, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, in Monett. Rosary was held Monday with visitation that followed at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
