Donald Ray Arnold

Donald Ray Arnold, 80, passed away Feb. 2, 2019, in Springfield. He was born March 8, 1938, in Detroit, Mich. to Malcolm Arnold and Marjorie (Nicholson). At a young age, Arnold moved with his family to Tennessee where he attended Rutherford High School in Rutherford, Tenn. and then after retirement, moved with his wife to southwest Missouri to be near his father who resided in Monett. Arnold was married to Ella (Cournoyer) in 1965.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Arnold began his working career as a pipe fitter, building submarines for the military, then became a ship scheduler and retired from the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. He enjoyed many activities such as bowling, golfing, woodworking, fishing and camping. He was also active with the Springfield Senior Golf League.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Ella; daughters, Donna Martin and Carole (Joseph Galan) Arnold; brother, James Arnold; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Flack.
Services will be held Feb. 8, 2019, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, where he will receive full military honors at 2 p.m., and then will be laid to rest. Care and arrangements are under the direction of Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood-Crematory in Springfield.
