DOROTHY MAE DOBYNS

Dorothy Mae Dobyns, 101, of Marionville passed away on Feb. 1, 2025, at The Ozarks Methodist Manor after a short illness. She was born in Atkinson, Neb. on Oct. 18, 1923; the daughter of George and Nellie (Malone) Karr.
She married Walter Roberts on June 28, 1942. Together they raised two sons and had been married 26 years when he was killed in a work accident in 1968. Widowed at 45, with her children grown, she enrolled in nursing school and graduated as an LPN in 1970, and took a position at the Aurora Community Hospital to be closer to her mother and stepfather. It was there that, in 1969, two of her coworkers and a patient decided to introduce her to Harlen Dobyns, who was a widower. They were married on June 8, 1974, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Together they lived at The Ozarks Methodist Manor from 2002 until their passing. After his death, she became known as “The Walking Lady” due to her traversing the perimeter of The Manor up to four times a day every day. She enjoyed life to its fullest for 101 years.
She leaves behind many friends at The Manor; her sons, Dennis Roberts of Wichita, Kan. and George (Donna) Roberts of Sioux Falls, S.D.; her stepchildren: Linda (Jim) Cox, Diane (Danny) Orr and Mike (Becky) Dobyns all of Aurora and Mary (Dale) Garner of Miller; along with dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even four great-great-grandchildren.
Private services were held at The Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel in Aurora.
