D.W. Mead

D.W. Mead, 77, of Monett, passed away March 12, 2019, while at Lacoba Homes in Monett. 
Mead was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Iola, Kan. to the late Deward H. Mead and Mary Louise (Lock) Mead. Following his education, Mead enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country honorably until 1962. To provide for his family, he had worked as a pipefitter out of Frontenac, Kan., with Local #664 and later worked for the P & M Coal Company as a welder. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as woodworking, especially making furniture, listening to talk radio and fishing. In 1963 he married Sharen Draper. To this union three children were born.
Mead is survived by: wife, Sharen, of the home; daughter, Shelly (Mark) McDonald of Monett; sons, Todd (Shelly) Mead of Prescott, Kan. and Christopher (Jenice) Mead of Ft. Scott, Kan.; brothers, Ted (Lacey) Mead of Hillsboro, Ore. and Dan (Lois) Mead of Arlington, Texas; sister, Donna Horning, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, John Ricci; and sister, Dia Farrell.
Funeral services were held March 15, 2019, at Buchanan Funeral Home. Graveside services and military honors were held at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Miami, Okla. Arrangements were under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
