Elmer Henry Stellwagen
Elmer Henry Stellwagen, 89, of Pierce City, passed away Oct. 17, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield following a short illness.
Stellwagen was born June 20, 1929, in Freistatt, to the late Henry and Rosa (Langer) Stellwagen. He attended schools in Pierce City and graduated with the class of 1947. He then furthered his education by studying architecture. In 1949 he joined the United States Army National Guard. During his 29 years of duty with the National Guard, he was a Mess Sergeant and Construction Foreman. He retired in 1973 at the rank of Sgt. First Class. Stellwagen enjoyed working hard and had owned and operated a dairy farm for most of his adult life. He also served on the Pierce City School Board from 1977-87.
In 1953, he married Nellie E. Hisaw at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, where he was a lifelong member and elder.
Stellwagen is survived by: his wife; sons, Dennis (Linda) Stellwagen and Bryan(Shelly) Stellwagen all of Pierce City; three grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and a host of family. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
Funeral services were held Oct. 20, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Interment and military honors followed at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Radio Broadcast in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
