Esther Adeline Berner

Esther Adeline (Miss Addie) Berner, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at the Lawrence County Manor, in Mt. Vernon. She was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Firebaugh, Calif., the daughter of Jessie James and Ruth Marie (Thomason) Downum.  
She had a strong Christian faith. She loved to put smiles on people’s faces with her hugs and genuine kindness. She was a hair dresser for many years in Fresno California and Oklahoma City.  
On Jan. 14, 1961, she married Marlyn Gean Berner. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacy McDaniel (Jim Harper); four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Ruth; one son, David Berner; one sister, Marjorie Marie Borboa; one brother James Downum; and son-in-law, Howard McDaniel.
A private burial under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at a later date.
