Eugene Ward “Gene” Spivy

Eugene Ward “Gene” Spivy, 94, of Monett passed away Dec. 3, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Sept. 9, 1926 in Pierce City the son of Ward and Jessie (Hatcher) Spivy.
He graduated from Monett High School in 1945 and attended Monett Junior College. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a telephone technician for Southwestern Bell for 38 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He married Mary Evelyn Birkenbach Oct. 14, 1950 in Monett.
He is survived by his wife; sister, Patricia (Richard) Harralson of Pleasant Hope and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephens Eugene Spivy and brother, James Spivy.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Lawrence Catholic School or to Monett Historical Society in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
