The Mt. Vernon High School Coquettes Dance team traveled to Kansas City on Saturday, Feb. 25, and competed in the Missouri Dance Team Association State Competition.
This is the first time in six years the team has competed at the state level. Although they didn’t place as high as they would’ve like, four members of the squad, sophomores Natalie Barker and Molly Daniels and juniors, Bailey Marquis and Emma Tobey, were named to the Academic All-State Team.
Coach Jordan Barber said “The girls walked in to the arena with confidence and pride. We didn’t leave with a trophy but I saw a team that grew, changed, improved and made memories this year, and truly belonged in that arena. I’m so proud of all of them.”
