Freddie Bert Houston

Freddie Bert Houston went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2020 in his home at 12:50 p.m.
Fred was born February 4, 1936. He is the son of Ida Carl and Hanson Houston and the step-son of Bill Carl. Fred graduated from Aurora High School in 1954. His senior year he worked for Wooten Drug Store. After graduating he started college of Pharmacy in 1954 attending St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Drury University and Missouri University in Kansas City while finishing his pharmacy schooling in St. Louis in 1960. He became manager of the Hughes Drug Store until 1965. He started with the Professional Pharmacy in the Dryer building on Locust St. It moved to Madison Ave. in 1974. He stopped there and went on to owning 13 Professional Pharmacies for 50 years.
Fred enjoyed the water, boating, skiing and diving. He dove in Table Rock, Daytona, St. Augustine, Camina, Bahamas, Key West, and Key Largo for 40 years. He also loved playing games with friends, Carol and Jay Holmes.
Fred had open heart surgery in 2005 but he continued to work. In July 2010 Fred suffered a stroke while driving home from work in Joplin. He was working for Walgreens at the time. This put the end to his 50 years of his Pharmacies.
In 1997 he met Connie Black and they married in 2001. Fred and Connie together own several rental properties and Fred owned rentals for over 50 years.
Fred is survived by his wife of 19 years, Connie; two step-sons, Marty and Scott Black both of Aurora; one step-daughter, Tammy Gill (Brad) of Hollister, MO.; 5 step-grandchildren, Garrett (Calli), Austin Black, Shalaina Motley (Mikal), Annette Gill and Breana Black; 5 step-great--grandchildren; several friends,  Carol and Jay Holmes, Charlie and Rosa Robbins, Larry and Marion Jackson, Mike and Bev Kinsella and many more.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; step-parents and a half brother, Dennis Houston.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Aurora First Baptist Church under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the church.
