Hopkins arrested after multi-county pursuit

A Springfield man is in custody at the Lawrence County Jail after he allegedly attempted to flee a traffic stop near Aurora on Saturday, April 8. Steven Hopkins, 33, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest by fleeing and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a posting on the Aurora-Marionville Police Department’s Facebook page, a police officer from the department attempted to perform a traffic stop on Hopkins for several traffic violations, at which point Hopkins allegedly fled.
The department reported that the pursuit continued through Republic and ended on James River Expressway. With the assistance of neighboring agencies, Hopkins was taken into custody and was allegedly found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.
Hopkins appeared in court on Monday, April 10, for a bond hearing where he waived formal arraignment. According to online court records, he continues to be held in lieu of a $25,000 corporate surety bond. Hopkins is next scheduled to appear in court Thursday, April 20, for a disposition hearing.
Hopkins is a wanted fugitive from out of state, according to the Aurora-Marionville PD’s Facebook posting.
