Houn’ Dawgs clinch Big 8 crown

The Aurora Houn’ Dawgs are streaking through the Big 8 East. After faltering to McDonald County in week one, they have outscored their opponents 260-109 and have quite literally run through their opponents by way of 391 rushing yards per game in their seven wins.

Their seven-game win streak was snapped this week by Nevada, however, everything that needed to be accomplished in the regular season is done. They finished 7-2, won the Big 8 East, defeated rival Mt. Vernon in week 4, 26-7, ran for 485 yards against powerhouse Logan-Rogersville, secured the top seed in their district and earned a first round bye.
Aurora will take on the winner of Seneca and Buffalo, Nov. 5 in second round playoff action, in Aurora. They haven’t faced off with either team yet, but should be a heavy favorite. Sitting at the second seed is a Hollister squad that the Dawgs have already beaten, 42-31, at their place.
The Dawgs will have a much needed week off to prepare before taking on either the fourth-seeded Indians from Seneca or fifth-seeded Bison from Buffalo, a week from Friday in Aurora.
