The damage to the house at Lee and Morgan can be partially seen from outside. The damage was limited to only one room, but the structure is currently uninhabitable.

House not total loss, but unlivable

A house on the north side of Aurora at the corner of Lee and Morgan caught fire on Friday, Aug. 6. Nobody was hurt, but the structure is now unlivable, requiring the family who was living there to move.
The fire was put out by the Aurora Fire Department, acting with mutual aid from the Aurora Rural Fire Protection District. Captain Todd Wood, of the AFD, said the blaze was knocked down in under 10 minutes and completely put out in under 35 minutes. He added that they hadn’t made a call on what started the fire.
“It’s up to the insurance company (what happens next),” he said. “We didn’t see anything obvious to call in the state fire marshal. Right now, we’re calling it undetermined.”
The damage to the house was mostly limited to one bedroom. Becky Jones, who owns the house and was renting it to the recently displaced occupants, said they had to move because the damage to the place left it unsafe to live in until it is repaired.
“They have to move out, because it’s not going to be livable until it’s fixed,” she said.
Jones said the family is an older couple whose daughter recently came to help them.
“They are getting old and are not able to take care of themselves, so she recently moved in with them,” she said.
Jones also said that the daughter, whom she identified as a 40-year-old woman, was the occupant of the room that caught fire, and all of her belongings were destroyed.
“The daughter lost everything,” Jones said. “The parents, I think their stuff is salvageable, but the daughter lost everything. All of her clothes, her bed, everything.”
In the meantime, Jones added, the family will need help.
“Just be praying for them, because they didn’t have any insurance,” she said.
