James “Jim” Alvin Moennig

James “Jim” Alvin Moennig, age 87, of Monett, MO, passed away on Sunday evening, September 8, 2019, while at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center.
Jim was born on January 19, 1932 in Pierce City, MO, son of the late Alvin and Hildegard (Worm) Moennig. Jim received his education from Trinity Lutheran School and Pierce City High School, graduating with the Class of 1950. Jim served his country honorably in the National Guard. For most of his life, Jim was a dairy farmer, beginning at a very young age working with his father and continuing through working with his son and grandsons. Jim was one of the original Board members of the Freistatt Farmer’s Exchange and was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, where he had served as Elder and as Board member of the Trinity Lutheran School.
On October 3, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jim married Geraldine “Jerry” Augusta Doss. To this union, they were blessed with two sons. Jerry preceded him in death on January 22, 2006.
Jim is survived by his sons, Gerry Moennig and wife Debbie, of Harrisonville, MO and Glen Moennig and wife Kimberly, of Pierce City; his grandchildren, Josh and Tracey Moennig (Abe and Jace) of Blue Springs, MO, Jessica and Sean Hood (Madisonann, Taylor, Dakoda and Hayleigh) of Mesquite, TX, Adam and Melinda Moennig (Logan and Mallory) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jeffrey Moennig (Anden and Vanessa) of Pierce City, Patrick Moennig, of Kansas City, MO, Justin and Heather Moennig (Payton, Carson and Makinley) of Pierce City, Jansen and Samantha Moennig, of Pierce City; his sister, Evelyn Bracht, of Mt. Vernon, MO; his brother-in-law, Pete Doss and wife Grace, of Freistatt; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Moennig will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Reverend Jake Sletten will be officiating.  Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Radio Broadcast in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
