James D. “Jim” Bass

James D. “Jim” Bass, 82, of Monett, passed away Nov. 1, 2019 while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
Bass was born Jan. 30, 1937 in Monett, to the late Elisha and Thelma (Thomas) Bass. He graduated from Monett High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation and served his country honorably from 1955-1959. In 1956, he married  Shirley Jackson; she preceded him in death in 2016. To this union, one daughter was born.
In 1962 he took over the family business that grew to include heat and air and commercial refrigeration. He was very involved in the Monett community, serving as a local and state past president of the Jaycee’s, a member of Abou Ben Adem Shrine, the American Legion Post #91, Monett Masonic Lodge, March of Dimes, a past Monett School Board member and Monett Sportsman League. He was a member of the New Liberty Methodist Church in Monett.
He is survived by: daughter, Melissa (Raymond) Priest of Monett; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three nieces; four nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Pat Bass; and sister, Gladys Colboch.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2019 at the New Liberty Methodist Church in Monett. Interment was in the Kings Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Liberty Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
