James D. Nelson

James D. Nelson, 79, of Monett, passed away Nov. 14, 2018, while at Cox Monett Hospital following a sudden illness. Nelson was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to the late Marcus D. and Florence (Mueller) Nelson. He received his education from Kemmerer Schools in Kemmerer, Wyo. In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country honorably until his discharge in August of 1962. Nelson worked on the family farm in Wyoming until becoming a truck driver where he drove for C.R. England Trucking and John Bunning Transfer. He eventually owned and operated his own trucking company, Nelson Trucking. After his retirement, he enjoyed working as a custom cabinet builder. Throughout his lifetime, he had many interests in his life including being a pilot, woodworking and as a cowboy growing up on a farm, he loved riding horses and working sheep in the mountains of Wyoming.
Nelson is survived by: son, Jim (Amy) Nelson of Monett; step-sons, Bob (Kathy) O’Neal of Bend, Ore. and Dave (Debbie) O’Neal Rock Springs, Wyo.; step-daughters, Debbie O’Neal, of Spanaway, Wash. and Laury O’Neal, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Fred (Marie) Nelson of Laramie, Wyo.; sister, Peggy (Charlie) Coleman; as well as a host of extended family and friends. Nelson was preceded in death by step-daughter, Lisa Lewis; and brothers, Danny, Robert and David Nelson.  
Nelson wished to be cremated and his ashes taken back to Wyoming where private family services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
