James Wilson Sullivan

James Wilson Sullivan, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Feb. 22, 2020, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Miller to Earl Ernest and Elizabeth Ruth (Boyd) Sullivan.
Sullivan was a 1955 graduate of Miller High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy before receiving his bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. He retired after 18 years as a major from the U.S. Air Force. Sullivan was the first president of the Mt. Vernon Farmers Market and was of the Southern Baptist faith. In 1956, he married Marie Smith, in Miller.
Sullivan is survived by: his wife of 63 years; daughters, Cindy (Roy) Hicks of Grove, Okla. and Susan (Gary) Lawrence of Rogers, Ark.; sons, Jim (Jamie) Sullivan of Mt. Vernon and Randy Sullivan and Shara Smith, of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his foster brother, Paul Hicklin.
