JANE (MOONEY) JAMES

Jane (Mooney) James, 85, of Monett, Missouri passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. Jane was born on October 15,1939, in Monett, Missouri; the daughter of George G. and Norma Mae (Davis) Mooney.
Jane graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1957 and attended Drury University and SMSU in Springfield, Missouri. In her early career, Jane and her longtime friend Georgeanna Wormington established a children’s clothing store, known as The Trunk, in downtown Monett. Together, they loved their customers and enjoyed taking care of them. Later, she was employed by the CPA Group for thirty years, until she retired. She was involved in many civic organizations. She was one of the founding board members who started the Barry County Youth Camp and continued serving on the board for over sixty years. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Monett (Waymark Church), serving in many roles within the church. She enjoyed crafting and baking and was always helping others. Jane made sure no holiday was left out and always found a reason to celebrate. She had a love for horses and never missed wearing her hat while watching the Kentucky Derby. She was devoted to her family, whom she loved very much.
On November 27, 1959, Helen Jane Mooney married Jerry G. James in Monett. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past year.
Jane is survived by her son, Jeff James and wife Mechele; two daughters, Joni Sue Dohmen and husband Frank and Julie Wages and husband Matt; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Mooney and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; one son, Justin; and one brother, Tom Mooney.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Waymark Church in Monett, Missouri with Reverend Robert Bradow and Reverend Tony Martin officiating. A private family interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Waymark Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Barry County Youth Camp or Compassus of Monett. Arrangements entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri.
