John Allen Gremling

John Allen Gremling, 78, of Carthage and longtime educator passed away Dec. 20, 2018, at his home. He was born to the late Frank S. Gremling and Wilma Snyder Gremling June 18, 1940, in Verona. After graduating from Verona High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in education from Missouri State University and his master’s degree in education from Drury University in Springfield. He held a lifetime certification in administration and guidance counseling.
He started his 38 year career in education at Mt. Vernon High School where he taught English and German and served as a high school guidance counselor followed by his tenure at the Carthage Junior High School where he also served as guidance counselor. He was sincerely dedicated to making each student feel accepted and achieve their personal best. If he could brighten the day for another, he felt the day was good. He was known for his good humor, encouraging and supportive character, and kindness shown to all.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage, along with the seekers class, served as past elder, and helped with the children’s ministry. He was also a member of MSTA in which he served a term as president. He also served on the following advisory boards: Koinonia Campus Ministry at MSSU, Carthage Police Department Personnel Board, and Innovative Industries. In 1969, he married Mary Ann Dyer.
Survivors include: his wife; son, Matthew (Kelli) Gremling of Republic; and one grand daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilbur Gremling.
Visitation was held Dec. 27, 2018, at Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Funeral services were held Dec. 28, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Carthage. Interment followed at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church (development projects or benevolence fund).
