John Wilbur McCallister

John Wilbur McCallister, 95, of Cassville, passed away Oct. 25, 2019 at Missouri Veterans home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Dec. 25, 1923 in Aurora, to Delbert and Lottie (Horner) McCallister. In 1946, he was married to Wilma Henson, who preceded him in death in 2004.
McCallister received his education at Liberty School in McDowell and graduated from Cassville High School. From 1943-1945 he served as a sergeant in the United States Army, being a gunner and also an airplane and engine mechanic. For 45 years he was employed as an automobile body man and foreman for Blalock Garage in Cassville. Later he owned and operated his own business. He was a member of Cassville First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.
Surviving are: son, Roger McCallister of Kalispell, Mont.; daughter, Jackie (Jack) Carpenter of Washburn; brother, Don (Joann) McCallister of Monett; sisters, Norma Hooten of Hobbs, N.M., Katie Mae (Jerry) Brown of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Betty Jo Perdue of Harrisonville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.
A graveside service with military honors was held Oct. 29, 2019 at Clio Cemetery in Jenkins, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Contributions may be made to Cassville School Back Pack Program.
