Jon C. Suit

Jon C. Suit, 76, of Monett, passed away Dec. 12, 2018, while at Lacoba Homes in Monett.
Suit was born Sept. 2, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla., to the late William C. Suit and Elma O. (McKinney) Suit.
Suit graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1960. He furthered his education at Missouri State University and then earned his Master’s Degree in history at Webster University. Shortly thereafter, he began his career with the United States Army; he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1964. He was stationed at multiple sites in the United States as well as Vietnam and Germany. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of service. After returning to Monett, Suit graciously devoted his time to serving his community. He had served in multiple capacities for many civic organizations including the Monett Kiwanis Club, Gideon’s International, Monett Sportsman’s League, the Monett Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, Monett Senior Citizen’s Center, Missouri Boys State, the Linn Thornton Christmas Dinner, American Legion Post #91, Monett High School Junior ROTC and Scott Regional Technology Center supporter. He also served on the Monett City Council and as interim mayor. Suit was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Monett.
Suit is survived by: sister, Becky (Edsel) Matthews of Fair Grove; brother, Tuck (Carol) Suit Seymour, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and family.
Funeral services were held Dec. 17, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Monett. Interment and military honors followed at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis Club in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
