Mt. Vernon senior Lisa Kruger signed last Monday to attend and join the track and field team at Southwest Baptist University.
“SBU is getting an outstanding athlete, as well as a student,” said Mt. Vernon coach Michelle Rust. “She does well in the classroom. She is a hard worker. I worked with her in the weight room and she wasn’t used to what we do at Mt. Vernon and became a very strong athlete.”
Kruger had many things factor into her decision, but she says all things were considered.
“There was a lot of prayer. I know any decision I made about college would not be possible without God. I thank my family, as well for the decision. They helped me and prayed with me about it. It is also a great school for their nursing program which is what I am wanting to go into. Ultimately it was the family and Christian atmosphere that I want in a college.”
Kruger transferred into Mt. Vernon from Linn, this year and has not had a track season yet, but Rust has been excited for Kruger from the first day they met. “I first met her during summer school when she was transferring to Mt. Vernon and she stopped and looked at our record board and some of our records have been up there for a while and the first thing she told me was, ‘I can break those records,’ and I responded, ‘well I am excited for you to break them. Its time for them to get broken.’”
The Mt. Vernon track season will begin later this spring.
