The Miller Lady Cardinals accomplished a rare feat a year ago winning their district in volleyball, basketball and softball, the “Triple Crown.” Miller achieved the feat for a second year in a row with a win over the Purdy Lady Eagles for their second straight softball district title Tuesday night.
It was a wild one at Purdy as it was the host Lady Eagles who struck first in the second inning. They then doubled down their lead in the third taking a 2-0 advantage. Miller wasn’t ready to give up yet, as a six-run fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning gave Miller a commanding 9-2 lead going into the seventh. Miller had some struggles late in the game, as Purdy went on a run but was unable to surpass the Lady Cardinals, as the Miller girls won their sixth straight district title in the big three sports.
Softball improves to 20-5 on the season. They have now won seven straight to end the season. The Lady Cardinals looked to avenge a quarterfinal loss to Jasper a year ago Tuesday night with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
