Lady Houn’s grab first district title since 2012

The Lady Houn Dawgs and their fan club pose following their District Championship Win.
The Aurora Lady Houn’s season reached sectionals for the first time since 2012 after defeating Seneca Saturday afternoon 48-38.
The Lady Houn’s received the top seed in the Class 4 District 12 tournament that took place last week, and first up was fourth seeded Cassville. Aurora defeated the Lady Wildcats Feb. 13, 50-21 on the road and the Lady Houn’s were looking to do the same Thursday.
It wasn’t nearly as easy in the opening half as the gritty Cassville team trailed only 8-7 after the opening quarter. Coach Jason Cole put on a full court press in the second quarter and Cassville was unable to even cross half court for most of the quarter. Threes from Kylee Cole and Ellie Creasey put the Lady Houn’s up 14-9. The score was 18-12 when Cole put the press on at the four minute mark before the break. Turnovers from the pressure led to an 8-0 run and Aurora was in control 26-15 at the break.
The momentum continued into the third and another bucket from Kylee Cole put Aurora up 30-19 to add to her eventual team leading 13 points. Aurora continued to roll as they defeated Cassville 46-26.
The run continued on Saturday as they took on the second-seeded Seneca Lady Indians. Aurora was in control for the majority of this one as well, as the trio of Creasey, Cole and Payden Blevins led another double digit victory 48-38 to secure their district championship.
The Lady Dawgs move to 20-8 for the year, but more importantly secure a date with the Ava Lady Bears in the sectional round. Aurora squared up with them Tuesday on the campus of Missouri S&T at Gibson Arena with a trip to quarterfinals on the line. A win Tuesday would set up a quarterfinal matchup at Southwest Baptist University against either Southern Boone or Fatima on Saturday at 4 p.m.
