Lady Mt'neers earn blow-out road win at Monett

The Lady Mt'neers earned a road win Thursday, Jan. 10, at Monett, cruising to a blow-out win 77-30.
Monett jumped out to an early 7-6 lead on Mt. Vernon and the Lady Mt'neers and that did not settle well, as Mt. Vernon went on a 16-point run to put the game out of reach before the end of the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Mt'neers lead was 16, 26-10.
Mt. Vernon sophomore Ellie Johnston, who led Mt. Vernon in scoring with 17 points, scored the quarter's first 8 points, including two 3-pointers. By the halftime intermission, Mt. Vernon led 38-17.
The Lady Mt'neers outscored the Lady Cubs in the second half by 26 to get the win going away, 77-30.
Following Johnston's 17 points were four other scorers in double-figures, including Lyndsey Hood with 15, Cameron Call and Caitlin Hicks with 13 and Lacy Stokes with 10.
The Lady Mt'neers will compete in the Frontenac Tournament, beginning with a 4 p.m. game on Thursday, Jan. 17, against Blue Springs.
