Pharmacy will occupy building that formerly housed Regions Bank branch

Landrum Drug will soon have a new address. The pharmacy will be moving from its present location at 1319 S. Landrum to the building that formerly housed Regions Bank at 106 E. Mt. Vernon Boulevard at the intersection of Business 39 and Market Street, across the road from Keen Bean. While the business is moving from the street that is its namesake, it will continue to be called Landrum Drug after the move.
Adam Freitas, who owns the pharmacy, said he acquired the former bank building last November and expects to move his business there by March.
Freitas said one reason for the move was to place Landrum Drug somewhere that was easier to find.
“We needed a more visible location,” he said. “Mercy had lost all their doctors here in Mt Vernon, and the building we are in is not seeing the traffic that is necessary for business.”
Another reason for the move, Freitas said, was that he wanted to have a greater stake in the community.
“We also wanted to have an investment into Mt Vernon,” he said. “We see the town growing more in the future. We love our clientele, (and) it is easy to work when you have such good relations.”
The new location, Freitas said, will have some advantages over the old one, not only because it is more visible, but is also 400 to 600 square feet larger, which will allow the pharmacy to offer better customer service.
“We plan to increase our MED-SYNC program,” he said, (and) we will offer curbside service. We will (also) have three drive-ins, so there shouldn't be any wait. Our OTC (over-the-counter) product line will increase due to the increase space. Those OTC products will available for pickup, drive-thru or delivery. There are also two offices that will be renovated for lease.”
The new location also comes with another benefit.
“We can now just walk across the street to Keen Bean,” Freitas jokingly added.
