Lawrence County Schools extend wellness closures due to nearby spread of COVID-19

In compliance with the Lawrence County Health Department recommendations, Lawrence County schools have decided to keep students out of classes until at least Monday, April 27.
It was determined that the risks involved with the COVID-19 outbreak were far too great to allow students to return to school on the original date of April 6.
With each passing day, the amount of cases of COVID-19 in the state of Missouri, rises.
As of Monday, March 30, there were 903 cases of the virus in the state. Although Lawrence County still has yet to see a positive case, neighboring Greene County has skyrocketed to 41. Unfortunately, there has also been 13 deaths in the state caused by the virus.
At the end of the current wellness closure, circumstances will be reevaluated and it will be determined as to whether or not classes will resume at that time.
The extension of the closure includes all extra-curricular and co-curricular activities including practices, competitions, programs and events.
School campuses will remain closed to all non-essential employees at this time.
It is the hope of school administration that each person is doing their part in following social distancing recommendations at this time, so that the spread of the virus will be slowed and fewer will be affected. Hopefully by doing so, classes will be able to resume by the anticipated April 27 date.

All local schools plan to continue Grab and Go lunches throughout the duration of the wellness closure.
