Leland Doss

Leland Doss, 65, of Monett passed away Feb. 23, 2021 while at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born on March 11, 1955 in Springfield son of the late Cecil T. Doss and Erna May (Osterloh) Doss. He went to Trinity Lutheran School in Freistatt through eighth grade and then graduated from Mt. Vernon High School with the class of 1973. He was self-employed most of his working years and had recently worked at Hill’s Automotive in Mt. Vernon. He served his community on the Freistatt Rural Fire Department as well as the Monett Rural Fire Department, where he was Vice President of the Board. He also supported Ducks Unlimited, NRA and the National Turkey Federation.
On Feb. 17, 1979 in Monett, he married Mitzi Wood. To this union, two sons were born. They were together over 42 years.
He is survived by his wife; son, Dakota (Melody) Doss, of Broken Bow, Neb.; two grandchildren; sister, Joyce Ness, of Freistatt; niece, Erin (Andrew) Carter and their children Brian and Caedmon, of Des Moines, Iowa; father-in-law, Larry (Mary) Wood, of Monett. He also had a close friend that he treated as his adopted son, Dustin Stellwagen.
He was preceded in death by his son, Derek in 2004, as well as his mother-in-law, Irma Wood and brother-in-law, Stan Ness.
Visitation was held at the First Baptist Church in Monett Feb. 25. Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at the First Baptist Church. Interment followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorials have been suggested to the Leland Doss Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
