LeRoy Louis Jirik

LeRoy Louis Jirik, 88, of Springfield, passed away Jan. 14, 2019, at Mercy Hospital following a long illness. He was born April 14, 1930, in Oran to Simon and Philomena Schramm Jirik.
He attended Chaffee, high school graduating in 1949. In 1951 he was drafted into the Marine Corps, serving two years. He was a farmer, carpenter, and worked in the maintenance department for Jumping Jack Shoes in Monett, until his retirement. He lived in the Verona and Monett area and moved to Springfield in 1996.
He became an active member in the American Legion Post #91 in Monett. He served as post adjutant, post commander for three terms, post scouting representative for Scout Pack #140, and Explorers #38. He was also appointed to serve American Legion 15th District as adjutant, commander, and Barry County commander as well as other committees. Member of the 40/8 Mineral Area Voiture 1321, and was  a member of the American Legion Post #676.
In 1954 he married Marry Ann Schmidt who proceeded him in death in 2009. He is survived by: daughters, Carolyn (Ed) Oddo of Exeter N.H., Marilyn (Steve) Fare of Willard and Donna Jirik of Springfield; and one grandson. He is also survived by: brothers, Norman (Jonnie) Jirik of Heber Springs, Ark. and David (Marie) Jirik of Farmington. He was preceded in death by brother, Frank, and his parents.
Visitation was held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home Jan. 17, 2019. Funeral Mass was held Jan. 18, 2019 in St. Agnes Cathedral. Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield with full Military Honors.
