Limited library services now restored for community access

Barry-Lawrence Regional Library entered Stage Four of their plan to reopen the library branches to the public on Monday, June 1, with the restoration of limited services at each branch.
According to a memorandum posted on the library website, each branch will be able to allow a limited number of patrons into each branch; once inside, patrons may spend up to 30 minutes in the library or use a computer for up to 60 minutes. Once a branch reaches capacity, patrons wanting to use the library must wait outside in six-foot increments. Then, one patron will be permitted inside for each person who leaves. The Mt. Vernon and Marionville branches are limited to 10 patrons at a time; the Aurora Branch, 12 and the Miller Branch, four.
There are other guidelines that will apply during Stage Four. The first hour of operation at each branch is reserved for those 60 and older, and those who are medically compromised. No one under the age of 18 is allowed in the library at this time. Up to two family members may enter at a time, and all children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Patrons will be encouraged to practice social distancing and wear face masks; hand sanitizer and face masks will be provided as needed. Patrons must also return materials at the book drop or the provided receptacles at the library entrances; returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours to ensure safety. Patrons who demonstrate symptoms of illness will not be permitted to enter the library branches.
Also, during Stage Four, staff will only be able to offer patrons limited assistance from a distance, and will adhere to strict cleaning protocols. Patrons can still request curbside pickup, and there will also be no-contact home deliveries, low-contact outreach and virtual programing provided during the summer.
