Local schools taking part in USDA extension of free breakfasts, lunches for students

Local students will be receiving school breakfasts and lunches at no charge until Christmas break of this year.
This is due to extensions in USDA programs that allowed schools to distribute free meals to students while schools were forced from the classroom back in March and throughout the summer months.
This program is only extended through December so when students return to classes after Christmas break, they will go back to the same status they are presently, be it full pay, reduced or free.
Schools also need parents to return free and reduced forms, regardless of this program.
Lastly, if students have negative lunch balances currently, that will not change with this program.
