Lois Marie (Brown) Zent

Lois Marie (Brown) Zent departed this life on Monday, May 6, 2019, in Republic, Missouri, at the age of 91 years.  Lois was born to B. and Amanda (Bridges) Brown on February 18, 1928, in Chesapeake, Missouri, where she has lived most of her life.
Lois was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and attended classes at Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri.  She began h er teaching career in 1946 at the one-room Mt. Comfort School near Chesapeake.  She spent most of her teaching career at Mt. Comfort and Takein School near Aurora.  She recalled with great fondness her time at the country schools and all the duties that went along with being a teacher to children of all ages.
Lois married Robert (Bob) Zent on February 15, 1947, in Columbus, Kansas, after his return from military service in WWII.  Their daughter, Marilyn, arrived in 1948 and their son, Bobby, in 1957.  The Zents owned and operated a sawmill for many years as well as a dairy and beef operation.  Over the next 25 to 30 years, Lois was able to substitute frequently at all three schools in the Miller School District.
When their four grandchildren arrived, Lois retired from substituting and spent a good deal of time caring for and spoiling them.  She and Bob enjoyed traveling through the West and South, going to auctions, and collecting antiques.  Lois and Bob had an authentic log cabin built (with logs sawed by Bob) to house their antiques, and it was a popular gathering place for family and friends over the years.  Lois was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and served as a Past Worthy Matron and Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls in the Mt. Vernon Lodge.  She founded the original Mt. Comfort 4‑H Club and was a leader and volunteer for many years.  She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Lois loved to cook and bake and was well known for her homemade rolls, bread, pies, and cinnamon rolls.  No one left her house hungry.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Bob Zent; three brothers, Donald, Dale, and Clell Brown; son, Bobby Zent and son-in-law, Carl Wright.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Wright, of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Wilma Sanders of Miller; daughter-in-law, Loura Zent of Collierville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Carla Hayes of Everton, Clinton Zent and Mona Wright-Harp of Mt. Vernon, and James Zent of Ash Grove; three great-grandchildren, Mason Hayes, and Ava and Cotter Zent and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.  Burial followed at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.  Visitation was held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019, in the funeral home chapel.
