Mary Thelma (Carter) Westpheling

Mary Thelma (Carter) Westpheling was born Aug. 13, 1921 to the late James (Jim) Allen Carter and Artie Elizabeth (Cordell) Carter.
Westpheling attended rural schools at Muncey, Roaring River, and Viola. She married Robert Glen Westpheling in 1938, and moved to the Shell Knob area. To this union three children were born; Bonnie Fair, Dewey George and Barbara Ann. She raised her children working in tomato canneries, a sewing factory in Pierce City and in various cafe’s in Cassville and the Roaring River Hotel. In later years, she stayed and cared for elderly people in the surrounding area.
Survivors include: daughter Barbara Ann Burbridge; a daughter-in-law; and 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: sons Bonnie Fair and Dewey George Westpheling; a Granddaughter; a great-grandson Charles Jackson III; and a son-in-law; twin brother’s Virgil Russell Carter and Spurgeon Clarence Carter; sister’s Edith Pansy (Carter) Ball, and Leorena Margaret (Carter) Ball; younger brother Benjamin (Benny) Franklin Carter; and second set of twins, Ellis Artie Carter and Elsie Elizabeth (Carter) Elting; half-sister Minnie Myrtle (Carter) Crawford; and four year old brother James Levi Carter.
Graveside services were held Oct. 5, 2019, at Painter Cemetery in Shell Knob. Arrangements were under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory,  in Cassville.
