Miller’s Richardson to join MO Hall of Fame Miller alum enshrined in Hall for track and field excellence

Miller graduate John Richardson will be enshrined into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame class of 2020 on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Springfield.
Richardson was a standout athlete in both basketball and track and field at Miller High School. He was named the top javelin thrower by Track and Field News his senior year and also won state championships in the long jump, high jump, shot put and discus throw.
Richardson went on to compete at the college level in track and field at the University of Tennessee, where he earned many honors and records in the javelin, including helping the Volunteers win conference and national team titles in 1991.
Prior to the 1991 season, Richardson earned back-to-back All-America certificates in the javelin with two sixth-place NCAA finishes in 1989 and 1990. He also broke the Tennessee school record on three occasions, posting his best performance at the 1990 Dogwood Relays at Tom Black Track with a throw of 77.52m (254-4).
Richardson’s track and field jersey was retired by Miller High School in 2014.
